Candy Skeleton Charcuterie

Candy Skeleton Charcuterie

Every year for our big neighborhood Halloween party we add a new and special element to dazzle our guests. In 2019 we decided to surprise our young Halloween ghouls with a candy charcuterie skeleton.

I purchased a white skeleton and mounds of eye catching candy to decorate his bones. Most of the candy was purchased from either Oriental Trading Company or Amazon. I purchased traditional Halloween candy like candy corn and candy pumpkins as well as colorful lollipops and candy bracelets to provide a colorful fun look. Tip, before you start placing the small pieces of candy in the body, buy some red vines to line the body cavity to bulk up the skeleton base. This will allow you to buy less small pieces of candy but accomplish a full eye catching charcuterie display. We found it was helpful to unscrew the lower spine and take it out so the skeleton will lay flat.

Here are some recommendations for candy: candy corn, candy pumpkins, sweet tart candy bones, Red vines and Reeses Pieces all of which you can pick up at the grocery store. Online purchases- wax vampire lips, wax soda bottles, smarties, candy necklaces, gumballs, eye gumballs, sour gummy worms, black and orange suckers, black twisty lolipops, neon ghost suckers, cat suckers and lizzard lips candy. I recommend buying a couple of each type of candy to ensure you have plenty to fill the skeleton chest cavity.

Don’t forget to have candy bags available for kids to scoop their candy loot into!

We wanted to make the candy skeleton charcuterie a surprise for guests so for the first bit of the party it was hidden under a bloody cloth on our kitchen bar. You could tell it was a body underneath but we wouldn’t let the kids peak so we could do a big unveiling. We purchased a paint drop cloth and mixed corn syrup and red food dye to splatter on the fake blood to cover the body. This is definitely a sticky, outdoor activity and do it a couple of days in advance so allow the syrup to dry.

The kids absolutely loved the candy skeleton! I highly recommend this party element at any Halloween bash!
