Silly Spooks - Kids Halloween Party

This adorable Halloween party from 2016 really feels like yesterday, except for that the Davis & Scout kiddo crew sure has grown since then. As the kids age, were are able to go a little more spooky with the party decorations, but this party had adorable decor that was suited for elementary aged kids and all their friends.

The Meri Meri decor elements provided inspiration for the cake table. These balloons made a great table focal point and while they are no longer available, they could be replicated fairly easily with a little creativity.

2016 was around the beginning of the Slime craze that took over our households for several years. Kiddos at the party experimented with Mad Science with a real scientist, including making silly slime so there was a fun, colorful and somewhat spooky science lap. Beakers, flasks, small jars and glass vials were arranged with cobwebs and a 3 ft. skeleton. Dry ice and baking soda helped make the various potions in the lab bubble and look mysteriously cloudy.

These mummy juice boxes were a big hit and fairly easy to create using gauze wraps and stick on eyes. They look so cute on the beverage table with the gross looking green punch. The best party was that the kids could help make them!

Along with the juice boxes, there was a dispenser of green punch in adorable spider paper cups. We have thrown enough parties to know that it works best to set up the beverage bar and pizza in the outdoor covered area. The drink dispensers are fun for kids, but can leak easily so it is great to use a plastic table cloth under them.

Some of our very favorite party decor elements this year were from Meri Meri’s Halloween Collection! This year it was the plates, napkins, banners, cupcake toppers and balloons that we used for the Halloween party. Meri Meri’s party decoration collections are all very high quality both in materials and design. Their designs truly help to elevate a celebration!! Check out some of their collection for this year:

This Halloween Balloon Kit was so fun and the kids had fun interacting with them on the balloon table. They are no longer available from Meri Meri, but could be made with balloons, construction paper, some crepe paper, and the balloon sticks.

Look at these sweet faces!! We created a photo backdrop by covering a wall in a midnight blue butcher paper and then adhearing Halloween cut outs, some that were purchased and some that were cut with an electronic cutter. We always make it a goal to get a photo of all the party guests agains the backdrop.

At events I host, Erin typically plays the photographer and now that our guests are returning year after year, it doesn't take much to get them to do the photos because they create such a great memory of the celebration afterwards. We recommend asking someone else to take photos at your event so that you are sure to capture the fun and it can be quite challenging trying to take them all while being a host.

Mad Science - Slime Making!! An activity the kids had so much fun with. Thankfully we had a real scientist who loves working with kids on hand to lead them through the fun mad science experiments. Making different types of slime the perfect activity to keep the kids entertained.

Each little mad scientist got to bring home some of their own slime creations in these individual slime jars and have silly science goggles and aprons while they were experimenting. Small pieces like spiders and bugs could be added to their concoction for extra creepy effect although just playing with the gooey slime created lots of screeches and giggles.

Halloween is our favorite holiday and se we decorate the whole house with festive decor. Even the outdoor fireplace is lit up with a neon Hocus Pocus sign and light up ghosts. We turn one of the storage closets into our famous Spook Alley. Each year it evolves and is full of different spooky surprises. This years big addition was the Grandin Rod framed photo that changes with a motion sensor and a giant jumping spider at the end of the closet. Having the really startling part of the party in a separate space works great so that those that aren’t big fans of this type of thrill don’t have to participate and can otherwise enjoy the rest of the party.
