Berry Sweet Strawberry Picnic

For months I have been dreaming about a classic red & white traditional looking strawberry picnic party. I stumbled upon some adorable strawberry napkins and plates a while ago, even finding the exact plates at Dollar Tree a few weeks later. Then I found the free printable “Hello Summer” banner from Hanna Nilsson Design, printed it on my home printer and cut it out. But then life got busy, and now that we are in the middle of summer, and strawberry picking season is mostly over, I decided to go forward with setting up this sweet little event for Janie and a few pals in our backyard. Better late than never, right!?!

This event set up was done very affordably with pieces that I am reusing and a few paper print outs & crafts from the Silhouette design store.

Janie LOVED sampling some of the strawberry themed snacks that I picked up including strawberry soda & shortbread sandwich cookies from Trader Joe’s, Haribo strawberry pillows and gummy candy I found at World Market.

My husband bought me this classic picnic basket our first year of dating over 20 years ago and I love being able to fit it into decor set ups. Combining the red and white gingham and the scalloped strawberry print really made this look. I also added the felt faux vine from the Spritz collection at Target to give the appearance of a strawberry vine.

These metal cake plates and food stands were from the Target Dollar Spot before Valentine’s Day. I have been able to use them both several times since.

Here is another set of ideas for a Strawberry themed party. We styled this event for a Berry Sweet first birthday party, but elements could easily be used for any event or combined with decorations from this strawberry picnic. Check out the elements through the photo links below:

When I started looking through the Silhouette Design Store for design elements that I could paper craft, I gravitated towards the designs that had a little white and yellow flower. It seems to soften the overall design. I purchased these headbands for my kids in the Dollar Spot in the spring and thought they were a playful addition when Janie wanted to wear one.

The framed white strawberry signs (Farm Fresh Strawberries, You’re Berry Sweet) were both purchased from the Silhouette Design Store, printed and framed. The strawberry with the flower was made from a cute popcorn box cut and then I made these strawberry favor boxes and tied them together with craft twine. I also bought the adorable berry basket cut, but then ended up just reusing one that some berries came in.

I had these cute polka dot boxes left over from an event a few years back and they look adorable with the strawberry thank you tags (linked below).

The kids ended up sitting on a picnic blanket on the grass enjoying their cups of strawberry shortcake so this set up was really easy to achieve without adding a lot of furniture out to the back yard. The ledge of the rock wall worked great and the square, white framed chalkboard with the banner taped on made a great centerpiece backdrop. The celebration was small, but made a big impact for the kids!
