Sesame Street Birthday Party
We are big Sesame Street fans in our home, so it was an easy theme choice for Jensen’s 2nd Birthday party. We went for a more “classic” Sesame Street look, which gave the party a more nostalgic feel for the older attendees.
Jensen and his friends decorated Twiddle Bug milk carton homes, fished for rubber duckies, read classic Sesame Street books in the reading nest, shopped at Mr. Hooper’s market, and broke a piñata.
Most of the party elements I purchased on Etsy. It was just a matter of sourcing decorations and then putting it all together. We didn’t craft too much for this party. Well, I mean, I didn’t. My husband made handmade muppets of Oscar and Cookie Monster. I know, he’s ridiculous (he knows it too!). I love him for all of his crazy ideas and his ability to actually execute them.
Party elements:
Refreshments - Attendees dined on PB&J sandwiches, homemade cookies, fruit, goldfish, bathtub jello with rubber duckies, doughnut hole street light pops (with printable street sign tags), and milk in glass bottles with Cookie Monster stickers. I found the Sesame Street themed food labels on Etsy.
Decorations - I love hanging elements over the food bar. I found classic Sesame Street character pom poms on Etsy. They arrived flat and ready to be fluffed up and the cutout faces applied. It was easy to do and came with great instructions. I ordered an adorable pre-made Cookie Monster banner and a printable character banner from Etsy. For the front door we hung a custom door sign to welcome our guests. Note, many of the decorations are no longer available on Etsy. I have found close alternatives for and have all of the link to those below.
Tablescape/Food - We served homemade cookies, PB&J sandwiches, rubber ducky bath in blue jello, Jensen light pole (powdered doughnut holes on straws) and custom street sign tags (unfortunately no longer avail with no substitute), fresh fruit, cupcakes with printable Sesame Street wraps and toppers, goldfish crackers in a crayon-lined bowl, TWO letters, food signs and milk in glass bottles with Cookie Monster vinyl stickers.
Activities - Shopping at Mr. Hooper’s Store - Custom made window overhang, spray painted wood crates of varying sizes, produce containers, fresh flowers, fruits and veggies.
Rubber Ducky - Pond game with duckies
Piñata - #2 Piñata and candy
Sesame Street photo booth- Handmade Oscar The Grouch, a really cute Oscar stuffy like this one would also do the trick, garbage can and brick wall paper.
Twiddle Bugs house decorating- I LOVED the Twiddle Bugs segments on Sesame Street when I was a kid, yet it seems that no one else really remembered them. Essentially they were a family of twiddle bugs that lived in an old milk carton. Their home was furnished and decorated inside and out. We collected cleaned out milk cartons for a couple of weeks to use for the craft. Kids then cut out windows and decorated the cartons in a similar fashion to gingerbread houses, but with sharpies, pom poms, glitter, and any other knickknacks that could be glued on.
Goodie bags - A box of crayons, Sesame Street bubbles, goldfish snack and candy tied up with printable “thank you cards”.
